THE BOYS FROM DOWN UNDER

Some of my fondest memories
From Vietnam to be sure

Was whenever the boys from Down Under
Would show up on the scene

They amazed me with their accents
I could listen for hours to their speech

They were our greatest ally
Fighting side-by-side

One thing for sure
They knew how to party

Eating steak, shrimp, and lobster
Cooked on the Barbie

Drinking beer and singing about our Sheilas
We would sing, dance, and laugh until dawn

To the boys from Down Under
I raise my glass to give a toast

Gunners and Diggers
Awesome Friends

Its hard to imagine that Australia actually went to war in Vietnam, but it did happen. I wasn't born or long after the war ended, but I get the impression of the cameraderie here.

Sounds like you shared a lot with these guys... and you had a great bond.
As for that accent thing...lol..I've only ever spoken to one guy from down under...and understanding him is hell...lmao...
