Wishing Well*

*********************************************************************************************************************************
In a town where I lived years ago,
Was talk of a Legendary Wishing Well...
I've never heard of anyone finding it
As far back as I can tell.
Stories were scattered about this Wishing Well,
Don't know if any of them were true...
So what I'm about to say, I'll leave it up to you.

One day I went back for a visit...
To see some old friends of mine,
Going on this visit back home was...
Like stepping back in time.
Some of the Old Buildings still exist today,
The Town Bank, The Old General Store,
Even The Old Playground were we would play.

While traveling through the center of town,
A thought occurred to me...
What if I could find this Legendary Wishing Well?
To make a wish...my one wish would be,
Wanting my one true love to return safely back to me.
Back then it was a pure and honest love,
As we sealed it with a kiss.
A time for years I have sorely missed.

Our names still carved on Our Special Willow Tree...
Vowing a forever love between you and I...
While making sweet, tender love under our tree
Amidst the twinkling stars at night.
Somehow time slipped away from us,
We went our separate ways...
The love we vowed years ago still stays with me today.

I will return to my home town until I find that Well,
Each time I visit I feel myself getting closer...I can tell.
My love for you is forever in my heart,
When I find the Well, I'll wish we be together...
Never again to part...
Though the years have passed us by I still love you so.
We'll stay in our Little Town forever...
Letting the world pass us by,
Underneath our Special Tree...making love you and I.

I started walking down by the Old Pond,
Someone was standing at a distance...just beyond,
A place where we children would do our fishing
All the while I'm walking my mind on the Wishing...
Well, as I got closer this person turned around
All at once my heart began to pound,
I just couldn't believe that he was there,
My first love and I...all we did was stare.
We ran to one another with tears flowing from our eyes,
He held me so tightly, we missed each other so.

Never did find the Legendary Wishing Well, so on the legend goes...
But looking for it gave us back our joy...
My love and I are together due impart to The Legendary Wishing Well.
Even today lost loves go in search of it...so they tell,
We're both so thankful for taking those trips back home you see,
Most thankful for the Wishing Well...
That brought my true love back to me.

May you find your Wishing Well!

I've heard that all legends begin with some fact of truth or occurence. This really interests me. I love to research legends, myths and history in general. (Yes I am the nerdy type)

I loved your poem and I wanted to say that shooting stars and wishing wells I have befriended many times.....

Wonderful poem.

Wow,you have a beautiful original style in each of your writes, and the fact that you always put a little verse at the total end like :"Hope you find your wishing well" always seals the piece with a kiss.Beautiful write Glo,
