Of pain and joys and selfish dreams
Let all minds comtemplate
When life itself with heartache teems
And giggles won't abate
Through smiles and sobs and screams of love
Each second robs us broke
And time itself the wing'ed dove
Our canvas, teardrop-soaked
So tell me please, explain away
Why all these torments love to stay
Why heartache stalks us night and day
While we could just move on
Instruct my mellow, hurts to weigh
All day, all night, against the sleigh
So gifts can't make my sorrows just be gone
For I can't write about my woe
I can't cry, describe the blow
Nor even stay devoid of smile for long
My heart is warm, not made of snow
It never cracks, nor ever slows
Why can't we just smile while
Life goes on?

There is always a reason... I'm with Archie on this one - I think... you've found it. Yes... I'm quite certain you have.
Thought provoking... and insightful. Personally, I'm glad we don't just smile while life goes on. Truly.

I passed over reading this earlier, deciding to come back to it. I'll quote a line, if I may;
"And time itself the wing'ed dove"
In equating time with the fleeting (flying) essence of a dove upon a canvas, you've hit an extraordinarily big nail upon a rather resonative head.
Indelibly [sic?] . . . truthful, raw, eloquent, incisive . . . et cetera. I don't think I have enough descriptors in the thesaurus...
Inspiring and wise. Again.
