Poetically Inclined

Contributed by ShadowDaughter on Monday, 16th August 2004 @ 08:43:57 PM in AEST
Topic: poets

once upon a time
there was a girl who was a poem
actually, everyone was
but the girl didn't know this
she didn't even know
that she was one herself

one day
she found poetry
and she began to write her poems
and all of the poems were her
but she wasn't any of those poems

and this went on
until the day she met
someone who wasn't a poem
and things happened,
as things often do,
and she died inside just a little

but she realized, in contrast
to this person who wasn't a poem
that everyone else she knew was one
and maybe, even, just maybe,
he was a poem, too
and it was just harder to tell
than it was for most

and that night she wrote a poem
and for the first time,
she was that poem

and she didn't say anything
didn't tell the world
or alert the media
just folded up the bit of paper
and put it in her pocket

it's still in her pocket, though
even today
and it never fails to draw a smile
from her poetic eyes.

You're amazing once again.

No, the title doesn't capture it specifically, but to be any more elaborate with it would put risk to the poem's impact.

Mm, and this one's got me thinking as it is.

Keep writing on rocking ships,
-Gerty(Eve).

That was an amazing story of self-discovery. It's hard to find a poem completely you. But if anything can define and describe us, it is the beauty and power of poetry. Nicely done.

she was that poem

Wow. ... and... kind of... *sigh*

I came here before and left... pathetically... without leaving a comment. I... couldn't find the words. I'm sure I still can't.

I am inclined to say... that it we were all forced to empty our pockets, there would be pieces of folder up paper falling out all over the place. Some... with the most glorious, unexpected poems written on them... and some... with scribbled verses that don't seem to make much sense. But on each paper, from each pocket... a poem of some sort. And yours... so beautiful that it brings tears to the eyes.

Moved, as always, by your words,
SNM

You've described the experience of lots of us. Beautifully done and I'm glad I had the chance to read it.

Nora, you don't have to change the title. It speaks out. Very well done my dear friend. *S* Cynthia
