No Cake Left.... Sorry

Contributed by Mick_Puttock on Wednesday, 6th November 2002 @ 01:30:00 AM in AEST
Topic: FamilyPoems

Here I am covered in flour
cooking for the last few hours
cakes and cookies and even scones
and as fast as I do they are gone

the bowls are licked by four little ones
for they can't wait, for cake to be done
while watching the oven, they (im)patiently wait
for that chocolate cake, to finish and bake

it's out and they tell me, "it no has to cool"
and I can see their mouths, start to drool
out of the pan and onto the rack it goes
as the anticipation, on four faces grows

out comes the knife, four slices I make
eight clean hands, at the table now wait
screams of joy, as to them their plates come
and now I'm left with the dirty dishes...oh crumbs

Hehehe...lovely poem. I totally understand where your kids are coming from, I leave the washing up to my boyfriend too and eat the cake myself!

I had four boys, all one year apart, baking cookies was just that way...for every dozen made all I got to see was an empty cooking pan. This piece takes me right back there. Thanks
