a palette of pain

Contributed by reprobate on Wednesday, 8th September 2004 @ 12:58:17 PM in AEST
Topic: Grief

Tiny, carefree hands that once clutched at clouds
Sweet and fragile, a reminder, this little dear
Sleeping peacefully now, nestled in the crisp linen
Possibly dreaming despite lost innocence's tear

Please, mommy, don't go
I didn't mean to make you mad
Please, I don't want you to hate me
I'm sorry if I ever made you sad

I love you, mommy...her last words to you that day
Petite rememberances of the delight of a child
Frail and unspoiled - just bewildered of life
A delicate grace savaged by a world too wild

Please, oh please, dearest mommy
(DON'T DO THIS TO ME!)
I don't know what to do or say
And I'm too small to even try, you see

How very small she looks lying there
What ever was it that was her sin so wrong
To have been handled so heinously
Was she so inhuman to be treated as if she shouldn't belong

Born of love or maybe lust
I'm still supposed to be here
'Til time calls for my dust
I'm sorry my breathing gives fear

She lies there, this precious pound of flesh and hair
Her loving and giving spirit shattered with evil disregard
Will she ever grow to be as her dreams did once dare
What becomes her future after a start so terribly hard

Oh no, mommy, NO-O-O-O
Please don't hurt me
Don't go, I'll be good
Where are you, mommy

The voice from the mask avers she'll be fine
And you think, will she ever be okay
A subhuman assault cast it's psychopathic pall
You cry to the heavens to take her pain away

"LAST CALL!"
What...NO, OH My god, nooo
Oh, baby, I'm sorry.......I'm so sorry
I thought I could trust him

Your writing is powerful. The imagery in this piece breaks my heart.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
