Feelings

The beginning of high school is when we first met,
Your name and your face I could never forget.
It took awhile, but over the years,
We formed a friendship, shared laughter and tears.
The days became longer, our souls began to bond,
And my pure little heart of you grew so fond.
I was happy, ecstatic, I felt like a child,
Then something happened, and my emotions went wild.
I tried to sort out my thoughts and my feelings,
I hurt you a lot, beyond any healing.
Whatever I did, I know it was wrong;
Understanding that fact took me much too long.
There was a lot I had to explain,
But I couldnt speak, and caused you more pain.
We met one night to set things straight,
The events that would follow were left up to fate.
We talked and talked, and when we were done,
Our commitment had ended, leaving just one and one.
I felt a tear slide slowly down my cheek,
And forced myself to look at you, I had to take a peek.
My brain tells me that vision doesnt lie,
But I couldnt believe it - I was seeing you cry.
How much that meant, youll never know;
You showed your emotion, and let the tears flow.
At that moment I finally knew,
You cared for me like I cared for you.
I realized that when it was too late,
And the price I paid for my actions was no so great
It took me awhile to finally see
How much your presence meant to me.
Tears start forming when I hear our song,
And I try to remember just what went wrong.
To make myself stop feeling so sad,
I think of all the good times we had:
Laughing, talking, joking around;
Gazing at each other, not making a sound;
Listening to music, playing some cards,
Why do break-ups have to be so hard?
The way weve acted the past few days,
Im glad we went our separate ways.
A hateful word, an evil stare,
I wonder if you still really care.
I still do, but you dont know it -
I have my own subtle way to show it.
Listen up, before I go,
Theres one last thing I need to know.
Id like for you to tell me when
You want to start our friendship over again.
Lets put our problems in the past,
And begin another relationship that will last.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
