A strong breeze ripples the bay and rattles the marsh reeds.
Boats chug in and out of the canal with little wake.
Others drift along fishing or seeking peace and quiet.
Fair weather wisps of clouds float in the sky.
But, when I look out to the horizon, I see nothing.
Waves of fear and anger, rage and sorrow return along with the remorse and helplessness I felt as I watched black smoke rise and Towers fall.
And as years pass there will always be an emptiness when I look for the city skyline.

I think you nailed it here. All those emotions are pertinent to understanding the reaction - and you conveyed the vision well.
Keep writing. |

Consider me as having reiterated the prior to comments... they're dead on.
I love that it wasn't until the end that you put this into perspective. By then, you had me rapt... and in the end, you totaled me.
Another fabulous write.
