True Essence

Contributed by ArabianKnight on Monday, 13th September 2004 @ 06:40:50 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

There are those who love to live
and those who live to love
and those enchained by lowly whims
and those who soar above

Some have tongues alive with words
although their deeds are dead
and some have tongues but rarely speak
their actions speak instead

There are those who live to eat
and those who eat to live
and those who give to feel wanted
and those who want to give

Some are humble like a star
reflecting on a pond
its image twinkles down below
although it's high beyond

Some are arrogant like smoke
ascending to the skys
despite how high it elevates
the smoke remains despised

Although we humans look alike
our souls are worlds apart
it's not the look that measures us
we're measured by the heart
