old lines you won't believe

Contributed by Cancer on Saturday, 18th September 2004 @ 10:07:39 PM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

the first
the last
the only one
who ever meant anything
but i've used that line before
so it means nothing to you

(somehow you know all of my secrets
every ploy i carelessly wasted
on every face that preceded you)

you knew far too early
that every word was a lie

i guess i wasn't used to trying
certainly not accustomed to caring
yet every lie i'd told the others
was a truth when at your feet

and now
at the gate of "No More Tomorrows"
i frantically grasp for new words to please you
but when i open my mouth
all i can do is sob

(memories of fingertips
burning across my skin
snapshots of tender embraces
that i'll never feel again
alone, the words pour out of me
but there's no one left to hear them)

Wow. This one really moved me.
I feel your lament. This was very
well done!
