the girl in the pink chanels
walks to work with her head held high
with the poise and grace of a woman twice her experience.
so clever, so eloquent; she is the epitome of togetherness.
passing glances admire her essence
wishing they could be her for just an hour.
the girl in the pink chanels
loathes each morning when she awakens
her meagre existence looms over her
enveloping her like a demon refusing to let go
she paints on her game face
like a perpetually bad habit
and climbs on the hampster wheel.
around and around she goes,
a futile little exercise
but one that society deems appropriate.
the girl in the pink chanels
she purchases trendy material items
-a temporary fix.
she seeks out flashy suitors.
-a weak crutch.
she finds refuge in her sleep
here she need not exist.
but this is not a bad dream
nor a bad mood she can shake
she remains a prisoner of her mind.
it is the neverending dark night of her soul
her living nightmare.
