I Know You

You've fallen
To where, I don't know
Will never know, it's too deep
For my simple mind to grasp
Too far, for my warmed heart to keep.
I know you, better than you think
So dearly, in all the mess
I know that you would leap.
And so, why have you fallen?
When all I can think of you
Is spirited and strong, keeping on
But in the light you've shed
All I see is what I dread.
What has happened?
To you, I used to know?
What has wronged you,
Enough to let you go?
My friend, I knew a silhouette
Of who you have become
The shadow, glimpse, you've let
Take you away, and take from.
I know you, would try harder
Work longer, if you saw
What has happened
To the you I used to know?
I know you, have seen the bitter ends
So why is it then that when
I see you now, you are defeated
Depleted
And worn?
I know you, would remember
How things used to be
I know you, would ask me
If it wasn't the way it is now
So, what has happened
To make this different
To cease your bringing your life to me?
I know you, could love yourself again, I know you
Would, If you saw yourself, the way I do.
I know you.
