Post Traumatic Stress

Contributed by deadheadpoet on Saturday, 2nd October 2004 @ 02:25:41 AM in AEST
Topic: HumorPoetry

Anxiety hits
when I think of long trips
everyplace seems
so far away
I know I'll be okay
but somewhere
along the way
the rational thoughts
seem to get lost
It's a crazy thing
considering
I love to travel
around
Had a car accident once you see
my honey fell asleep
at the wheel
Doc says I suffer from
POST TRAUMATIC STRESS
(sounds like a real big deal)!
Hell
the words alone
could make a
sane person
get a panicky feel!!
I try
deep breathing
and taking drugs
my kindly Doc
prescribes
doesn't seem to
help me much
I'M STILL A FREAK ON LONG RIDES!!

Sometimes just owning the fear can help. Rather then fight it, just say ok i'm afraid. But do what you want to do anyway. Sounds like you do that already. Then challange the logic of the fear; re-decide if it makes sense. Also, try challanging the percieved consequence ... what is the worst thing you can imagine happening to you. There are probably worse things that could happen which you don't fear. I hope you aren't offended by my going on about this. I appreciate it is a tough issue.
