50,000 FL. BALLOTS LOST -DEMOCRACY NEXT?
Another voting farce is coming up And then a battle will erupt Claims and counter claims will fly As hopes of democracy fade and die
Already 50,000 Florida ballots are lost Who knows why or the potential cost? Suspicions surround whos making a push For illegal power, could be Jeb Bush?
Have things not come to a piteous state When a country already divided by hate Sees politicians destroy democracy to win In an ugly blizzard of sleazy spin?
What happened to America the UNITED States? It is now filled with numerous hates What kind of leader caused all this? One who took disaster and made a crisis
Shouldnt a good leader unite ALL his people How come George Bush did NOT? Shouldnt a good leader inspire goodwill? Why did we reach this ROT?
In part it was incompetence In part it was a narrow call Intended for hawks who once were small Who waited in the wings for their day to act And their dirty schemes to enact
American freedom they wished to curb To move America toward another goal A wish to manipulate them and control To take you back to a darker day To make their plans, to have their way
And Bush? Bush was and is the puppet And Cheney the mouthpiece Who controls the Muppet
And behind them truly ugly men Kristol, Perle and a gruesome clan They speak of democracy But take it apart They have nothing but ice In their heart
Scheming for power That requires deceit Moving the masses And guiding their feet
Taking the people to a place they dont choose The neocon scheme will ENSURE you lose All kinds of freedom in your life In place of harmony they will bring strife
America needs a leader who can unite ALL the people in an HONOURABLE fight Not dividing us all friend from friend But an honest consensus to heal and mend
Of course the shock jock hawks Will still rave on and on Trying to kill him like Clinton Until hes gone
But this time we will see their ugly game And how they hurt America in their shame
The scandal of Florida will repeat again More abuses from the partisan frame As the world looks on amazed at this A high-tech nation in disgrace
As hanging chads and confusion Fill the air So bringing democracy In despair
What kind of leader failed to act? There were four years for a system we could back Fifty thousand papers have now disappeared And democracy may be next, as we feared...
--O//--
Florida ballot papers go missing
Tens of thousands of postal ballots have gone missing in the US state of Florida, sparking fresh concern over irregularities in the poll campaign. Some 60,000 absentee ballots were despatched by authorities in Broward County, north of Miami, this month.
However, only 2,000 of them have been delivered.
Florida was the centre of controversies which delayed the result in 2000, with George W Bush eventually declared the winner in the state by 537 votes.
Electoral officials have been overwhelmed by calls from anxious would-be voters who are not going to be able to get to the polls next Tuesday and fear that their votes have been stolen.
The missing ballots have fuelled an atmosphere of intense suspicion in Florida, with Democrats already backing nine separate law suits in the state, says the BBC's Justin Webb in Washington.
If the outcome is close and decides the result in the presidential race - and both of those eventualities are perfectly possible - it seems virtually certain that protracted legal battles will follow, our correspondent says.
'Beyond our control'
A police investigation into the missing ballots has not uncovered any indication of criminal wrongdoing.
Meanwhile, the US postal service inspectorate said it was highly unlikely that 58,000 pieces of mail had just disappeared.
A spokesman said inspectors were trying to establish whether the ballots were ever delivered to the postal service.
Broward County election official Gisela Salas said the situation was 'something beyond our control'.
'We really have no idea what's going on,' she told the Associated Press news agency.
Lawsuits
Campaigners are working to ensure that no one loses their vote because of the missing ballots.
Democratic Party legislators have called on the electoral authorities to publish newspaper ads telling people of other options for voting.
They also accused the Republican-dominated state government of dirty tricks.
In 2000, Broward gave Al Gore his biggest margin among Florida counties. He won 67% of the vote there, while losing the state to George W Bush.
'It looks like they're trying to steal the vote again,' said Diane Glasser, vice-chairwoman of the Florida Democratic Party.
Both the Democrats and Republicans have already begun filing lawsuits in states across the US, challenging different aspects of the election process.

You beat me to this one, Steel. If this happened in the UK, I'd go burn down the Houses Of Parliament.
For real. |

I read that article on the BBC news site a couple of hours ago. They got away with it 4 years ago, I hope this time they do not. As Ken Livingstone, a real Labour, not "New Labour" politician once said, "If democracy actually worked they'd change it" Good write |

The Supreme Court, mostly liberals, would not let the demo's in Fla. steal the election, and they've been crying foul ever since. I've never seen so much hatred toward a man (Mr. Bush) in my life. And I disagree with much of his policies. Other-wise, an interesting read.
Ps. I kinda agree about the neo's. - Kristol, Perle, etal. |
