Seeking the aid of a friend

Contributed by girish on Sunday, 7th November 2004 @ 06:52:40 AM in AEST
Topic: FriendshipPoetry

Those who know virtue and riper wisdom share
Their worth weighed well, you should choose with care

To cherish all accomplished fellow-mates as friends
Whose skill removes the present ills and further defends

Cherish these fellows of mighty soul and make them your own
Is to have rare kingly treasures, rarest gift to be known

Live with men of greatness, that for your own excels
Gives you the greatest power, that with a monarch dwells

For a king the counselors are monarch``s eyes
Select these counselors with counsel wise

If you know to live with worthy men allied
You need not fear from any foeman`s pride

If your power will fall because of your associates
They will employ thunder out reproaches when you make mistakes

If there is no one to censure you, bereft of safeguards all
For no ruin work of yours, shall surely ruined fall

One without principal has no gain of usury
Likewise without friends you have no stability

Last but not least

Incur the wrath of many foes, but works greater woe
Ten-folds, the friendship of worthy people to forego.

I will be your friend. Not for any selfish reason or personal gain, but everybody needs a friend or two.

Blessings,
Rita
