HUMAN ATROCITIES

Contributed by Romayne on Wednesday, 10th November 2004 @ 03:28:13 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Into our village these men did ride,
They come to commit acts of genocide.
They steal our sons and kill our men,
Then rape our women, again and again.

They burn our homes, kill, rape and pillage,
Then they move on to another village.
To punish and humiliate, that is their role,
So that this country they can control.

Into the bush we run to hide,
In our ears ringing the screams that are cried.
To a place of safety we must make.
And all of our past we must forsake.

Makeshift shelters of bits and pieces,
Still our suffering never ceases.
Starvation and disease make conditions dire,
And because of the rains, we live in mire.

Children and people each day are dying,
And the hearts of so many are filled with crying.
We are the people that are displaced,
And by our own nation, weve been disgraced.

We want, so much, to stay alive.
And we need some help, so we can survive.
We want an end to this obliteration,
So we can build a better nation.

We want to go home and live without fear,
And know that this hatred will disappear.
So for the sake of humanity,
Show some mercy for people like me.

it's...almost undefinable what people can do to each other...in such horrible ways. your poem made me tear up a bit...i know a lot of people are rather ignorant about the world, and I am one of them, unfortunately. if only more knew..

god bless you,
acy

Well written heart wrenching poem. It is beyond my knowledge how one human being can be so cruel to another. Much peace to you.
