I sit at a quiet Downtown diner alone I'm here all the time It brings me peace
I wave to people whose Names I'll never know They are like me here For the same reasons
We are a community Each individual Sharing a place Living together
I flirt, cute waitress When it's nice outside I'll walk her home Sometimes, tonight
At home, I look At her number I never call Part-time friends
Old girlfriends And cool wine Never spirits Still reclusive
I'll sleep, maybe Later today It's late or early Seems hard to tell
Sundays I wait Worry about things To come weekly Long working days
I'll come back home Coffee and waitress My never friends At my diner alone

I can picture this quiet evening with the shadows beginning to surround the lights of the diner. Thanks for sharing that picture. There's just something about diners.

I love this poem. Good flow, great word choices. Just a great poem. It should be in a book. |
