I Wish I Knew Then...

It's not always going to be everything I didn't expect
At some point I'll know and except
what I can't have
and should it so move me
I'll take what I can get
unemotionally
instead of longing for things
that don't belong to me
The time I spend in this dilemma
creates places that are missed
and go unfulfilled for days
and elapsing so much time in between
realizes softer ways
to get by and feel seen
Somewhere in the middle of me
I know how to proceed
but when faced with his face
I just stand there and bleed
Wanting, lacking,
seemingly moving forward
but it's reality back-tracking
to square one where I've always been
I wish I knew then
what I know now.....
