Grief

I walk, a fellow member of this mortal coil beside me. Her smile is warm, as is her touch. She holds me close, caressing my shoulders gently, And brings her hands very slowly to my chest. With a dagger, a blade that I had not before thought existed She cuts into my torso, slicing my heart. The shock sens me reeling to the ground. And as I sit here bleeding inside, Tears of pain stream down my face And she laughs as she runs from me forever. For a very long time I sit, letting myself slowly die. And I continue to sit. As I feel my heart has nearly passed on, another Draws close to me, and mends my wounds. She offers her outstretched hand to me. I take it gently in mine, and she helps me to my feet The rise to my full height takes time, and also Helps to mend my heart as I stand. I look deeply into my new companion's eyes. And just befor eI can assume my full height, She knocks my feet from under me, sending me back down to the ground And bursting my heart open anew. The fresh blood inside spills quickly, and within moments, I feel cold. No blood remains in me, life no longer flows through me, As my heart has died. And without my heart, my soul has nowhere to go. So I now rise to my feet unassisted, and continue to traverse this coil. It winds up and around, and I can only wonder what lies at the top. On my journey upward, I find myself nearing the end And a new companion comes along. This one is dark, streaked with pain and crying for help. The demon that stands before me is my past. I gently take its hand, and together we walk, Scaling the coil. The higher we walk, the tighter the demon's grip becomes, Fearing what may be at the end. I fear it too, and feel more comfortable being Not so alone. And now we have reached the top, and found what Fate Had in store for us after all our eternities of pain. With gentle white wings, she turns to us, and we draw closer In hope to leave this mortal coil. To end our lives of pain, struggle, and conflict. Her gown flowing in the wind, the angel approaches my companion first. Its grip nearly crushes my hand, the fear enveloping him As the angel brings a single finger forward to its forehead. At contact, the demon's grip losens, and a content smile stretches across its face As its plagued life is washed away. I now find myself alone, standing on the tip of the coil, facing the angel. She smiles gently, and reaches out to me with an outstretched hand. No hesitation slows me to take it, And her gentle skin soothes my weary and helpless soul. Her soft kiss upon my lips revives my heart. And as she pulls away, She gently caresses my face with her hand, and whispers to me, "We missed you here in Heaven."
