Shell sit there for hours staring at her arm for hours
Whether she expected the strawberry gashes to disappear
Or that the wind through the open window to blow out the candle
& darken everything & she would see the scars no more
Whether she expected his name to drip from open wounds
Or for him to walk through the closed door with a smile
& brighten everything & kiss the scars away
She would let the blood drip into her hand & clench tightly
& for that slight second she imagined his hand in hers
But this blood was deceitful - it will never be his hand
This caused tears to swell up in her eyes
& fall down her puffy cheeks to her chin
Where they crowded - scared for the drop until they were pushed
Shell sit there for hours staring at her arm
she was me
