Deus Ex Machina

Topic: MiscPoems

It is I that walks freely in the valley,
See no evil, fear no evil
I never see myself, therefore I do not fear.
All I see are exits and wounds, all I walk past
I never stop a moment to take it all in
For though I am far more evil
More evil than anything here,
I do not wish to abide, in the chance I may
Lose myself and drop away.

I still do recognise the power of the sublime forces
I still realise I am only mortal, a water drop, a seed
In the plantation of man, I will be reaped before long
I will not grow, not enough, I will die in the cold
Swelter in the warm, drown in the torrid rainfall
I will not yield to my desires to live, for they betray.
I will only shudder to the chance I may do good, what else
May I do in these days than cause mayhem, what fun
Would there be should I choose to exist in harmony?
I see no evil; therefore I feel I should bring it to the valley.

I have outgrown my roots
And burst them from the bank, I have left
The plantation, I will bring fear to others,
To the farmers and my brothers.
I laugh at the sun who can harm me no more
I only have death to face, and he
I live for; I want to relish it,
Much as I should anything else
I want to see it shocked at my joy.

Here in the valley, with my unstoppable onslaught
I laugh and progress through the fields and the rain
I feel the strain, I do not fear it though, I know
That if I continue and do not look back, they can't
No they cannot reach me, for I am evil, it is true.
I have stepped right out, into the impossibility of reason
Only now do I realise I cannot think if I should survive
If I think, I will rationalise, and see I am wrong, evil is not
Rational because evil has no mercy, I am bad. I am evil.
But I am clever, too clever, I need to think, the Deus Ex Machina
Has caught up with me.

Wow! I really like your writing style, it is complex and intelligent. This one is really deep, and I love that. The final stanza seemed to paint a perfect, yet perplexing picture of a mysterious chase. Very good.
