A restless night

Midnight, chimed the old grandfather clock. The full moon shone through a nearby window casting erie shadows on the wall. The leafless trees knocked on the house and taped at the windows. The wind howled and moaned like a lost soul seeking eternal rest. The floor boards creeked and cracked in tune with the shutters that clanged outside the windows. My bed squeaked as I turned on my side and threw a pillow over my head. Soon all was quiet, for sleep had finally set in. I dreamt of a moonless night and trees that stood still. Of windows without shutters and floor boards that never made a sound. I dreamt of home for I would be returning soon.
