D.U.I.

Contributed by TheRaven on Sunday, 9th January 2005 @ 07:13:11 PM in AEST
Topic: Grief

Woke up in a dream today
Not sure which ways up
Which ways down
Everything seems so ghostly
Staggering into the bathroom
Staring into the mirror, a face,
Full of anguish, looks back unblinkingly
Tormented from the night before
The night the world seemed to cave in

Endless Boone's Farms? and shots,
Constant yelling for the heck of it
Eyes glazed and breath afoul they got in
Engine started and was revved loudly
Felt like accelerating from 0-60 in 4 seconds.
Buckled my seat belt like Superman
Oh how I wish I really were Superman
CRASH! SMASH!
The sickening sound of metal against metal
Combined with the shattering of glass
Don't remember much afterwards
Flashing lights, wailing sirens,
And a bulging black bag

Mirror now reflects a face full of grief,
Tears running like a sad waterfall
Mom and Dad silently sneak in
Are you okay? We're so sorry.?
You're sorry?! You two...
You bastards lived, and she died!
Why?! Because you were drunk?!
She was so innocent, my little sister
Now she's gone

Sometimes it's the losses that are the easiest to prevent are the hardest ones to deal with. Especially when they're not your fault. This was really powerful and awakened memories and emotions I thought long buried.
