I remember looking back My heart was not yet broken, just cracked Watching my childhood home disappear Know never again would I be here Driving down that road for the last time For this place, my heart will always pine
I turn around and shut my eyes Quietly listening, trying to block out the lies We'll soon be back here" No we wouldn't, we were moving, far away from being near
Half way across the world My heart cried out, the pain unfurled A new life and new friends This is where the line stops and my happiness ends
Leaving home was the worst thing I ever did Where I laughed and cried when I was a kid This yearning for home will never be satisfied A part of me has died If I go back, nothing will be the same My heart and soul are not the only things maimed
I still dream of the day I'll see Once again my hope, and that good part of me Such a little thing could do so much good, Visiting the home of my childhood.

Does it really die or does it become a part of us? I left my childhood home when I was 17 and left the town in lived in when I was 21. I've been back for visits, but I have a new home now, and I really prefer what I have helped to create, but my first home is always a part of me.
