Innocent smile
sweet to break your heart
like candy decays your teeth.
Shines away the shadows
and dances in the rain.
Born to shine a light
and lift a weakened weary life
to unimagined peaceful heights,
where only clouds and roses reign.
A sweet sugar to my bitter soul.
Gummy candy and crayons,
Berenstein Bears books with rapt attention,
memories to cherish a lifetime.
Hold a memory of small hands tugging at wristbands
and small arms wrapping round my neck.
Wrap around with childhood warmth,
comfort like fleece blankets and fire.
Cherish and protect in overflowing love;
hold for eternity that memory
of pillowy hugs and sugary kisses.
