We All Know These Years

Contributed by Steeleyes on Sunday, 8th December 2002 @ 01:00:00 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

The playground
is lashed
by sheets of rain

forgetting and remembering

The sandstone school
is burnt hot
I rub the crumbling sand
off the tawny wall

remembering and forgetting

The grassy slope home
is zigzagged with
paths
I smell the air
deep and dark
And full of meaning

crying and feeling

Windows thick with snow
white whirlwind flakes
everywhere
children drift by
heading for school

moaning and hurting

My pillow is wet
with tears
my mind torn
by laughing demons

falling and fading

Two rooms
In the kitchen
hot and shiny
red faces glow
words I can't hear
no need to fear

terror and kisses

Teachers sharp
can bring pain
so fast
A terrible friend
A loving enemy
I quake
in horrible love

fusion and cold

Running wild
down the dark street
Holy reckless mad
Wild strange force
I am so alone

wicked eyes and respect

Deep breath
as he leans over me
and warns
of terrible things
compressed and hurt
endangered
small cries fade
inside

avoidance and wonder

A sharp wind blows
through the bushes
I see ghosts and
monsters
in the clouds

hot blushes and fears

black nights
trees twitching
in the wind
moon shining like
a mirror among
the stars
Dogs howl
in the distance
Making me shiver

regret and love

My Mom
I'll marry
My Dad
a worry
A nagging pain
I can't explain

tombs and sunbeams

Looking with round eyes
at life
I understand nothing
I put it all aside
'till another day
'till I see it clear

To a day that will not be
and cannot be
Though life is lived somehow
anyway

Waiting, still hopeful
moving on,
watching for those
precious smiles
between
the tears
