Our Almost Annual Picnic*

Topic: StoryPoetry

It's getting close to the time when,
Our Annual Picnic is about to begin.
Next Saturday will be the big day,
When friends and I can just stuff ourselves with food
Also we plan to play the day away.

Oh another thing I almost forgot,
Wouldn't think of going, I just can't...
A picnic just isn't complete without,
Me inviting my little buddies...the Ants.

They love coming along with me,
Never taking up much room...
About this time of year down by the Lake,
We get to see and smell the beautiful Hibiscus...
Such vibrant colors all in full bloom.

We were told to be extra cautious
Here in New Jersey it's a known fact...
The Black Bears are on the come back.
Heavens forbid we're not looking for an attack.
With all this food we brought along...
Knowing it's what they crave
Maybe...just maybe they will behave...
Better yet they won't even come our way.

No sooner then I got the words out of my mouth,
We all heard someone scream and shout...
Look out!...look out here comes a bear!
With all the confusion going on, I shouted, where?
He really took all by surprise, giving us a good scare.

One of the women said...over there by the Hibiscus plants,
After I spotted him, the next thing I did...
Was summoned my little friends, the Ants.
The Lead Ant said, this is his lucky day...
Our intentions were to come, eat and play.

If it's action he's looking for, we'll give him some,
He really, really, really picked a good day to come.
We'll just march on over there...
And remind him where he came from.
If it's a fight he's looking for...we'll give him one.

With the Ants being so tiny, the Bear didn't realize,
Before he knew it he was staring them in the eyes.
My little friends were all over him making him regret
That he ever came upon them...
Mostly for spoiling their picnic.
Next thing we knew that Bear ran like he was hit,
By a bolt of lightening, those Ants set him in a fit.

Running back towards woods...
My little friends really taught him some proper manners,
He vowed from now on to be very good.
Shouting as he ran away...
I'll never come here again looking for a fight,
From now on I'll do just like the Ants...
Wait for a proper invite!

Lot's more strength in numbers!
