Across the sky tonight I whisper unspoken words I wish that I could be alive Living the life I loved Cries daunting these familiar years All across your face All too many questions All too much at stake Times grow hard but The body grows weak Too much time has passed Too many years unnoticed and too much time on my hands My watch doesn't work anymore The battery has given in The ticking sounds of past mistakes The knocking on my doors The wishing and wanting of a young old man Losing all that he had Past tense becomes my present Waves crash on the sand Washing away the wasting days I'm hot without my fan Laying awake I sleep and sleeping I'm still awake Nothing seems to work When I really need for it to So misconstrued on the frontlines The newspaper always lies The T.V. announces death The kind I'm familiar with It's the ones of twos and threes of fours They never seem in place The task of putting them together has always scarred my face
