I Can't Laugh It Away

Contributed by iluvpencils on Tuesday, 15th February 2005 @ 06:41:40 PM in AEST
Topic: toughstuff

Looking back on tear stained notebooks
Wiping away the blood
Forgetting how the scars looked
Trying to explain this all to you
Pouring out my soul
Trying to explain the things that I do
But it all just seems so old

Losing my mind
Feeling my heart race
I swear I'm trying
To get through this day

You tell me to laugh it all away
Your "hehe"s and "lol"s
You tell me that will get me through the day
Laugh away the pain
Laugh away the sorrow
Nevermind the fact that nothing seems the same
That my heart hurts too much
To think about tomorrow

So I try to laugh
Put on a fake smile
No matter how hard I try
It doesn't seem worth the while
Finally I asked you why
Your face fell
Then I got my answer

"I laugh because I don't want to think
Laughing isn't real
It makes me forget what is"

So I turn away and hide my tears
Never dimmed
By just one more year
Create more tears over old memories
Replace the blood stains
So they're more clear

I really like this, but you're right, it kinda falls apart in the last stanza. Its like, your idea is still there, but you lost the words. Besides that, beutiful poem, I can really relate. =))
