"Dad" In memory of Richard C.Chadwick (My Stepfather) Died:May 6,1995
Today I think of you with more respect than ever
I put aside unhappy memories of moments, perhaps you regret
Today I think of you and of how much of you I am
Though not in blood, in thought and deed, we're family
Today I think of you wishing to express thanks
For you were truly my father and I your daughter
Today I think of you remembering your face
I think of all I learned from you in my life
Today I think of you and lay a rose upon your grave.

This is simply beautiful. I partially raised 6 foster children. Then I married a widow with 5 children. They are grown and I now have 15 grandchildren. So your beautiful poem was very real to me. Thanks for sharing it. |
