Outlaw Blues - Track 4: Outlaw Blues

Contributed by Nazmythian on Wednesday, 2nd March 2005 @ 10:04:28 PM in AEST
Topic: group

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He once broke a bottle and cut a man
While he rested between sets
Seems the man had promised Slide a beer
Then wouldnt make good on the debt
Slide believed you do what you say
And say everything that you do
What good was the word of a promise made
If you didnt follow through
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Slide Cotrell's
Outlaw Blues
___________________________________

Five minutes spent in silence
Abandoned cigarette
An old blues man begins to paint
A tune from his palette

The tracks stretch on forever
Tomorrow never dies
He looks like hes been holding his
Last breath for all his life

While hobos in the next car
Just smile with empty eyes
Kids in the street, they keep the beat
His switchblade is his wife

There isnt much of nuthin
Hes taken time to learn
With weathered hands he grabs his axe
Starts sawin blues that burn

Once you start runnin from the law
Theys comin after you
Dont matter where you go
Dont matter what you do
They can bind your hands and lock you up
And never know the truth
What youre really runnin from
Is a case of Outlaw Blues

Soon he begins to color
The souls of those he meets
Into each and every rhythm
And each and every beat

He knows sooner or later
That someone passing by
Will feel what he is playing
And offer up a ride

Some joint, run down and seedy
With broken run down men
Set him up expect him to play
For cheap watered down gin

Hell soon wear out his welcome
Another makes his list
A broken bottled argument
They taste the Devils kiss

Once you start runnin from the law
Theys comin after you
Dont matter where you go
Dont matter what you do
They can bind your hands and lock you up
And never know the truth
What youre really runnin from
Is a case of Outlaw Blues

He races out the back door
He takes all of the clues
Running again, it never ends
Hes got the Outlaw Blues

You leave the past behind you
Tomorrow brings new dues
You can run, hide, but youll soon find
You got the Outlaw Blues

Once you start runnin from the law
Theys comin after you
Dont matter where you go
Dont matter what you do
They can bind your hands and lock you up
And never know the truth
What youre really runnin from
Is a case of Outlaw Blues
___________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He never stayed one place too long
His welcome never seemed to last
Hed get in a fight on a Saturday night
And have to leave town fast
But the music never left him
The magik never went away
Theyd drive him on, all night long
And all Slide could do was play
Excellent, simply wonderful! I was drawn in from the start, and in my mind could see this tale unfolding. You're doing such a great job of bringing this story to life! Another wonderful piece, Nazzy!
Naz, you and and Ghost Moth have created a song that tells a tale with creativity and genius. I hope you decide to record and publish this music/poetry.
If you ever do get this published, I want to purchase a copy, and spread the word about the work around.
Willofree, Terry
It's true, you two really are great together.
I think this may be my favourite, though I am not totally sure, as they are all very good.
Great work you guys, I'll keep an eye out for more.
*hugs tons* Phil xxx
You know... Gee's images couldn't be more perfect! (why is no one saying that?!?!!?) Incredibly well done... and so perfectly complimentary. *applauds*
And the lyrics here... just ridiculously wonderful... especially, the detail (the abandoned cigarette, weathered hands - of course, cheap watered down gin). Again, fabulous!
The others are right you know, you two... you really ought do something with this series. It, frankly, is to damn good for us alone.
Thinking THIS defines succesful collaboration,
~Snemmy~
"Slide believed you do what you say
And say everything that you do
What good was the word of a promise made
If you didn’t follow through "
SO true, so true...
"He looks like he’s been holding his
Last breath for all his life "
amazing!
These peices are full of so much truth in hidden quotes, it is (can't think of a word) kick ass!
