The Forgotten

The moon rose its spheric beacon at dusk, Competing for brilliance with a falling sun, Appearing painted on an azure sky with tired strokes as the sun drowned itself unto the water's face.
All about me were corpses with beating hearts, Embraced in the final glimpse of a fleeting life, The few that stare are those not yet gone, Avoiding the water where their friends have been.
All about me are corpses with dimming minds, And every day we wake with fewer faces and faltered names, For the sake of their family and friends I pray, Whether famine or depth, daybreak claims another.
In the darkest hour I heed the water's song, The lighthouse moon turns its back to mourn, And below the charcoal waves I now sleep for the life of hearts and minds is far less real.
