The old theatre, a dead shadow... A decaying fossil against the evening sunset. Boards across the windows... A structure that is cracked, falling apart... A cave in doorway... A broken stairway... A gaping hold, where the stage used to be... Once upon a time... When this place that lies before you...was the place to be.
That was a long time ago...
Now see here, the old clock is striking midnight... That's a time of power (in case you didn't know it.) And slowly now you see the lights, or the ghost of lights that were slowly stutter there way back into guarding the world against the night...
See those people on stage, they we're great once, Now they flicker on and off... Like shapes within the static... They start to play their instruments... And it sounds ok now... But you should of been here fifty years ago... It was incredible... They played music like you've never heard it played before.
And you here the applause, and you can sort of see the crowd... Theyre coming in a little clearer... But can hardly be heard... But I remember, they were shouting out an ancore... And clapping their hands... Everyone was fired up... We couldn't hear anything but the music... (We couldn't hear anything but the music)
It's breaking up a little now... A lot can happen in fifty years... But we stay here every night and hear them play... You can stay here too if you like... We only do because we've forgotten how to leave... Everything gets real strange sometimes though... Like the place is falling apart... And sometimes it looks burnt you know... Like something underneath that we're not suppose to see...
Fifty years ago something happened... I remember that... Now we have to stay here, and listen to this band forever... But they play well, you should stick around for a while... I think you'd like it...
Still, it's too bad you couldn't be there then... Back then they when they were incredible... If you had been here fifty years ago... It would've been a night to remember...

Fantastic ~ I applaud you and your great write. I hope others could see this because they are missing what I imagined. It was eerie, but I couldn't stop reading. What an imagination. I like poems like yours. Keep it up. I will look you up again. Thank you for sharing such a masterpiece. |

I enjoyed the mysteriously eerie imagery, as well as the shifting sequence, which seems to have been intentionally structured for effectiveness or purpose?
I must admit to my fearful fascination with this piece…
There are many ambiguous elements, particularly portrayed through the following:
“The old theatre, a dead shadow...”
“A decaying fossil against the evening sunset.”
These are fairly poetic and well suited to its surrounding narrative-like context.
“Now they flicker on and off...
Like shapes within the static...”
I specifically enjoyed this comparison and interpretation.
“We only do because we've forgotten how to leave...”
Could this be a hint?
Could this character be a ghost?
“ It would've been a night to remember...”
This poem is a piece to remember… I am sure it will linger about in my mind like a ghost for quite some time.
Thanks for sharing it.
