I HEARD NO HALLELUJAH(Peter Sprenkeler)
Now I gave you lifeI gave you freedom of choice,
And to me in praise you thankfully lifted your voice,
But temptation came along and tragically overthrew ya.
You soon found out the real meaning of shame,
Your garden now a place filled with pain,
And from your saddened heartsI heard no hallelujah.
I gave you commandswhich you chose to break,
You learned of sinand of how hatea life can take,
Oh Abelin sin your own brother came along and slew ya.
Oh how I cried as I watched mankinds decline unfold,
His beautifully pure heartto sin had been sold,
For so longfrom his lips I heard no hallelujah.
Yet from my grace and compassion I chose to forgive,
Despite his failuresmy creation will yet live,
You flee in fearbut my love will always pursue ya.
I have devised a planwhere forgiveness will reign,
A home I will build for all...free from shame,
Then perhaps you will once again sing a joyful hallelujah.
My very own Sonto you I will send,
On His word and His teaching you can always depend,
He will defeat sin and deathand all that tragically overthrew ya.
For your very sinhe will have to suffer and die,
Of our love for you does this not testify?
Your hearts will not be able to resistin tear-filled hallelujah.
From the beginningfor my people I did always care,
A future we have togetherand all believers will share.
From my lips youll not hear the wordsaway from me I never knew ya.
For your sinJesus has paid your debtyou now understand,
Before me in purityas I had always planned,
From your lips in lovewill pour many an hallelujah.
Jesus diedso that you all could live,
Despite your failuresHe will always forgive,
For the crushed and brokenHe is always there to soothe ya.
There is no more reason to be afraid of death,
For to Him you will go as you draw your last breath,
And as you travel you will be singing to Himoh hallelujah.
