The Broken Hearted

The Broken Hearted
~~~~
My heart bleeds for the broken hearted
The many whom life has dealt a difficult hand
The ones who struggle on their own
Without a leg to stand
No security net to catch their fall
No rainy day back-up plan to help
How they will make it through the year
Is surely in some doubt
No good neighbor to offer a hand
No guardian angel to watch their back
Yet courage and determination
Is nothing that they lack
Though courage doesnt pay the bills
And determination doesnt supply the meal
Struggling becomes a way of life
Yet emptiness isnt what they feel
I meet a lovely woman today
Who could teach me a thing or two
About appreciating what you have
Even when its few
The gleam in her eyes
Outshone the roughness of her hands
As she asked for a job
In terms I could understand
Qualified she wasnt
But determined even still
Her honesty and assertiveness
For the position could fill the bill
I decided to take a chance
Her situation warranted the try
The woman needed the money
How could I just sit by?
I hope she works out fine
In my gut I think she will
When actions speak louder than words
It can change the way one feels
I didnt hire her out of pity
Though my heart for her did break
I was impressed by her spirit
To do whatever it takes
She wasnt seeking a handout
She wasnt expecting to be kept
She was just looking for someone
To help her take the next step
I wish her all the best
I hope this relationship become a fruitful one
Isnt that what its all about?
When the day is done
