Broken Promise

BROKEN PROMISES
3/19/05

All they are are broken promises
sewn together
by innocence,
by a voice that sounds
honest.
But always broken promises.

You say you are only going
to play a song,
a song with your voice
and your
guitar.
"I promise,"
You had said.
"I'm just going to play him a song, I promise."

But two hours later,
when I step down there to,
It became a broken promise.
Only a broken promise
threaded together
by words that mean something
to me.

A promise is like trust.
Trust that I beleived in,
but every time,
It's only a broken promise.

Spending the night,
lying,
intertwining with each other,
It's all love,
I know that.
and I'm happy for you.
For him.

But that promise,
that promise hurt.
When I walked down
and saw you not singing,
not playing your guitar,
like you said you would,
It became a broken promise.

They're only words though,
right?
They don't mean anything.
They're just words,
it's just a promise,
Who cares if it's broken?

It's just a broken promise,
linked together by words that are sacred.
"I promise" is just like saying,
"I love you."

I don't know how long I can stand it,
sticking up for you,
lying to them,
vouching for the things you do,
"They're just watching a movie,"
"She's just playing the guitar,"
"They're not doing anything bad."

Broken promises are like telling
Someone that loves you,
that you hate them with all your heart.
It hurts.
It pains.
It's just a broken promise.
