I threw away my past today

Contributed by dreamer_for_eternity on Sunday, 27th March 2005 @ 01:26:56 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

I threw away my past today
To my surprise
I had no dismay

I knew what to save
And I knew what to keep
I knew what not to dream about
When I lay me down to sleep

I threw away my first relationship
I threw away my first best friend
Although all that really was thrown was mementos
What good would mementos do in the end?

I sewed up my first broken heart
And watched the seam disappear
It's now as if I never fell apart
As if I never shed a tear

I found a new dream today
One that replaces the broken dreams
My new dream has chased away
Morbid fears and bitter angst screams

I put my scissors down today
And picked up a hammer instead
Because it's time to start building up
Putting into action the thoughts in my head

I put all my rejection into a box
And I threw away the key
And although there's no way to unlock
Now acceptance means nothing to me

I put all the fights behind me today
And I gave up the compliments, too
For words are just things you say
And words are often untrue

I threw away my past today
To my surprise
I had no dismay
In a world of love,
A world of hate,
No way will you ever escape your fate
