What Happened to Innocence?

Contributed by AnastasiaN on Friday, 1st April 2005 @ 10:30:16 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

there was a time when you stole a cookie
long before dinner was made
or you broke the crystal vase
and you let the dog take the blame
but now a five-year-old swears at his mother
because innocence isn't what it used to be
now children beat other children
because they saw others do the same on t.v
there was a time when cigarettes were sinful
and the sixteen-year-old stole beers from his dad
now cocaine is the new cigarette
and ten-year-olds getting wasted isn't so bad
there was a time when sex was taboo
you might've heard about that girl who got knocked up
now everyone has something to prove
children are just too eager to grow up
at 19 i'm older than my years
a 40-year-old parent far too concerned
not understading the urgency to grow up
and wishing they would all learn

Another axiom is, ”And the truth shall set you free” Your poem is unadulterated TRUTH, plainly spoken, and masterfully written. Post it everywhere. It needs to be seen by the masses. If only one person reads, believes, and is changed for the better by your contribution . . . your time has been well spent. Kudos, on your message and the talent needed to put it before the public eye. Congratulations and keep writing.

John
