I Left My Life Somewhere In The Overlap

Contributed by girltranscended on Monday, 11th April 2005 @ 10:25:21 PM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

For eight long years
weve been birds
with broken wings.
Great Blue Herons
who stand tall
but are not proud.

We are those silent
solitary animals
in coves by ourselves,
flapping overlapping feathers,
soft and fine
and gray as fog.

For eight long years
weve been birds
with broken wings
a half a mile from the other
with our backs turned.

On long, thin legs
we have waited and
waded through so much.

We are broken
and useless
there on that left side.

And we are not done
being weary and
are wary all the time.

Great Blue Herons
who are tall
but not proud
in coves by ourselves
flapping overlapping feathers.

First, great images and definately with a message here.
Second, I love the way you cleverly used the play on words in the middle of the stanzas.
Oh so well done!
