No-one
does a loved
one justice by defending
when theyre wrong.
Accepting them
the way they are
wont always
make them
strong.
Happiness will not result from having things their way.
Unless we help them
bend the rules,
they have no
game to play.
As long as we
stand ready
to make excuses
for their shame;
theyll never have
to face the truth
and were the ones to blame!

John once again you out done yourself with this amazing outstanding poem which is filled with words of wisdom. We should correct the faults our children make. A unique and eloquently written poem. Your talent truly shines my dear friend. Another superb write by you.

Spot on. There are many ways to interpret spare the rod and spoil the child, but none that leave out boundaries, discipline, right and wrong, and accepting consequences for behaviour. I hope I am never in a more serious situation than the ones I have with my sons already - I'm sure I'll be sorely tested.
By the way, line 12. Did you mean obey instead of bend? Your choice doesn't seem to fit the theme of your poem. Good write anyway,

A M E N to every single line filled with wisdom and caring .
If children are not corrected timely, their future will be grim. It is charity to correct. and Oh la la, children feel intensely, whether the correction is justified or not. Even a slap on the behind . is understood by children. That can sense caring and love behind it and are endowed with the ability of discernment to distinguish whether punishment or correction is administered justly or injustly.
Your poems contains all this wisdom - in ingeniously presented format and the music goes so well with it.
An excellent work that everybody should read and takeen to heart, especially present-day parents.!!!

Even though those are the very things about parents that get extremely annoying, I totally understand that even if all you want to do is cuddle and love on the ones you love, you really have to put a foot down and really think about how, in the long run, it will transform them and form them into the person they will eventually become. I love the last 7 lines the best! I think the one thing people today lack is the ability to actually come in contact with reality. They don't care what goes on around them, as long as they benefit from it.
