The meager Asset Of Simplicity

Contributed by reflections on Sunday, 17th April 2005 @ 09:14:26 PM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

I was but the small and struggling,
dimmest lighted glow
of the bright light
I was born to someday be
a light, from total darkness,
meant to multiply and grow
into a cheerfulness
the whole wide world can see.

I was born into full darkness
without a glimmer of real hope
no certainty of life
beyond first breath.
Uncertainty was borne on lifes
most treacherous slippery slope,
with every probability
of a fast approaching death.

A loving God took mercy
on the seed of two in love.
Their first He claimed as His
and left them none
till second crop left them
a share-croppers version of,
a weak and sickly,
loudly wailing, son.

I was not supposed to live
many days beyond my birth.
The world did not accept me
with a million dollar smile.
Fact is, until God touched me,
I had very little worth;
so He made sure that all their suffering
was worthwhile.

Even then He made my days
a simple life line for the lost;
the lighted candle that glows brighter
each and every passing day;
the hand that reaches out in help
regardless of the cost;
and the heart that always is in touch,
and never turns away.

God blessed me with simplicity;
a paupers regal crown,
and filled my heart with all things small
(that make me grow)-
The meager assets granted,
grew in size when passed around,
till the light that God envisioned,
in time, took on a brighter glow.

How can I describe the happiness
of being who, and what, I am?
Serving God does not have to be
something anyone must dread.
After all, Christ is the Shepherd,
I need only be the lamb
I must only do the simple tasks
in my daily life He is my Bread!

John F. Templin

Are we not all fortunate and blessed to have HIM our good shepherd, who cares for all His lambs without distinction. Perhaps even more so for the frail and weak. Under His care and watchful eye then the lamb can grow up and in its life even by its simplest task wo wonders for the whole universe and shine like a big candle in the darkness. The adage "better than complaining about the darkness - light a candle" I know a candle that is very brightly shining for the benefit of the many. Be blessed abundantly John! Thank you for these edifying and inspiring lines. Ad Major Dei Gloria

A good poem! Great theme!

...and well, a truth revealed as well
