Christmas Sales

Contributed by Ami_and_me on Tuesday, 24th December 2002 @ 10:40:00 PM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

Grey days of Christmas shopping
Wet winter in the air,
Designer trousers collecting puddles
Water dripping from your hair.
The place is packed with thoughtless people,
Greed bright in each red face,
Tripping over short piggy legs
To match lifes quickened pace.

Everyone headed somewhere
Whilst you just wander by,

And you know that youre an outcast
When youre lonely in the sales
People all around you
But you minds still on the scales

Forgotten where youre going
As you stare up at the sky.

Theres a homeless guy on the corner,
The words: Big Issue on his lips,
All he wants for Christmas
Is a scarf and bag of chips.
But hes not one for make-believe,
His Santa died, aged five,
The tips he gets wont let him die,
But they cant keep him alive.

Everyone headed somewhere
Whilst you just wander by,

And you know that youre an outcast
When youre lonely in the sales
People all around you
But you minds still on the scales

Forgotten where youre going
As you stare up at the sky.

And the reams of screaming boys and girls
Tug on parents sleeves,
Or boast their tales of Santas secret.
To those who still believe.
Money spent for the sake of spending
On the presents that no one likes.
One month on and all thats left
Are torn books and broken bikes.

Everyone headed somewhere
Whilst you just wander by,

And you know that youre an outcast
When youre lonely in the sales
People all around you
But you minds still on the scales

Forgotten where youre going
As you stare up at the sky.

And the thought of Christmas dinner
Weighs heavy on your soul,
Overload on chocolate treats
And the fear devours you whole.
You think youre watching factory hens,
Getting fatter by the day,
But its people here that are gorging,
Saying you should do the same.

Everyone headed somewhere
Whilst you just wander by,

And you know that youre an outcast
When youre lonely in the sales
People all around you
But you minds still on the scales

Forgotten where youre going
As you stare up at the sky.

Youre going through the Christmas motions,
But the spirits barely there,
Cant remember whose cards youve sent
And frankly, couldnt care.
Youve given up on good will and peace,
You call this Christmas war,
The sound of one more tinkled tune
Would bring you crashing to the floor.

Everyone headed somewhere
Whilst you just wander by,

And you know that youre an outcast
When youre lonely in the sales
People all around you
But you minds still on the scales

Forgotten where youre going
As you stare up at the sky.

When youre lonely in the sales.

This put a lump in my throat.
How sad we put a price tag on love.
I kind of forced my way through the shopping
as it can be exactly as you said.
Wishing you much Christmas peace,
a peace that moeny can not buy.
God Bless,
CrazeeMomma

excellent poem with pangs of recognition for me... all good stuff!

Wishing you love like a flame that capitalism has seeked to extinguish since it's birth, but which still burns bright in the hearts of those who insist on fueling it!
