Living Nightmare

Contributed by Alina on Wednesday, 27th April 2005 @ 09:02:56 PM in AEST
Topic: AmericanTragedy

Heavy breathing
Crunch.... panting
The sound of tropic leaves underneath your feet and the beetles squished under the soles
The rising....blistering sun overhead reveals your position
Shhhhh
Dont breathe too hard
Dont think too much
They'll hear you're heart crying if it's beating loud enough
Automatic gone off!
In every direction
Screams and cries and naked children
Bloodshed running down your face into your eyes
You realease the sight of death into foaming tears
Cant see past the jungle green in front of you
Why did your father send you?
For the honor??
Give me the money dad....let me go to Canada!
The draft..... my number was nine
NINE!!!
And here I am
The Napalm and Agent Orange filling their bodies
Until the life in them explodes out amongst the trees
In the silence I watch the souls fly to the turqouise blue sky of eternity
And I wish my soul was going too
Not a war....but an Establishments game to be another hero
Survive another day amongst the Gooks
The blistering sun of red crimson flames
The sweat and heavy breathing stains your teeth
Stings your eyes
Wake up....
I'm not in Nam no more
Just a nightmare
Still alone
Living Nightmare........ in my cold lonely bed

Sad that for so many people who served this is a way of life.

Even sadder that it may be repeating.

You painted well the picture of how horrible war is. I lost 2 uncles and a cousin to the aftermath of war. They could not deal with the things the saw and done. Great write.
