They say don't pick the daffodils Well, have you ever considered the dandelions? Although they are thought of as bothersome weeds Dandelions are not quite so intrusive as daffodils.
And if they are so terrible and useless little saffron things Why are they blown by children's mouths to be lost on the wind? The dandelions have phases; stages of their golden lives Whereas daffodils are short-lived bursts of canary yellow.
And they do say it's better to burn out than fade away I suppose that sometimes they must be right...
But I much prefer the dandelions They fade just like me.

Fading in stages. I like that.
I query the title, however. I'm sure this is an allegory on being told what not to do as a child, but 'Roadsigns' is a bit omni-literal for me. But it's only a title.
