I can't breathe
My air is blocked
By the words that stick in my throat
A knot in my chest
An empty pit
That threatens to overwhelm me
Devour me as it spreads
Her words echo through the silence around me
Surround me, rearing their heads
Leering at me, grins of feral teeth
Wrapping around me,
Binding my still form
Keeping me from running away
A sacrifice for the pit that grows within me.
His assurances fade with the sun
And the faint shield of hope
The tired defense against the pit
Collapses at last, crumpling into the void
I am left with nothing
Except my empty soul
And the guilt that no anger will relieve
It's her fault
It's his fault
I'm not responsible
It's not my fault
Don't blame me
But the truth is a relentless hunter
And I know the next days will be fraught with pain
That I cannot escape my mistake
That my hope is weak
I can no longer struggle
I will no longer struggle
And I cast myself into the void
Praying for the darkness
To devour my empty, guilty soul.
