THE LONG KISS INTO THE GOOD NIGHT
That long kiss into the good night is the life
that through the thorny stem
thrusts the rose,
what eats the leave and chokes the roots
is my lonliness,
and I tell myself
that my heart of hearts
may bloom and die by the same life.
Your lips with mine are the force
that on a distant shore pound the surf,
that dries to dust and blows away
is my lament,
and I tell myself
that our love is born of the same sea.
Your soul and mine
are the flow that is my red blood,
that ebbs a crystal stream
shall turn mine black,
and I tell myself
how of my blood is made
the fountain of desire.

Oh my, Billy. Dear, sweet friend,
I loved this poem, although a certain sadness washes
over me as I read it.....
It's so sad that this poem was overlooked and not commented
on more. It is touchingly beautiful, but filled with a sense
of despondency. You captured emotions magnificently Billy, as always.
