Fall, slip, cut, then blood, 'Mum, help, I'm stuck in the mud!' Find plaster, smooth and white, 'Flesh coloured', if you like.
The shiny square sticks out at me A constant reminder of what i should be, Pure, white skinned, like a movie star, 'But you're Black, that's what you are.'
Our deep red blood, that's the same, Its just the surface that causes pain I ponder this, i wonder that, If we were white and you were black.

Cheers for replying to my poem....just to reply to your comments...this is the first time ive used this site and am prob being all keen but....i used 'mum' to kind of conjur up the innocence of a child who has been born into a racist world...i thought coming from this perspective would be more effective because i was trying to illustrate the sadness of this innocent young person having to deal with descrimination on such an everyday level. |

AWSOME!!!!
I really like it. It's innocent at the beginning, and then goes on to something much harsher and evil. I adore the idea that it comes from the point of view of the kid, and that the kid already knows about racism.
I don't understand. Why can't more people think the way you do? Great write, it's important. Keep penning. |
