Last Quarter - Three weeks after new, one-half of the Moon appears to be illuminated by direct sunlight. Sometimes called Third Quarter. Waning Crescent -During the fourth week, the Moon is reduced to a thin sliver and the Moon appears to be partly but less than one-half illuminated by direct sunlight. This Moon can be seen after the Last Quarter Moon and before the New Moon. The crescent will grow smaller and smaller every day, until the New Moon.
Remaining moon, in last primary phase, Still entrancing us with your ways Three quarters though your familiar orbit Arcing silently in great transit It's been an age since lunation, Now slowly drawing to completion.
Inconstant moon, ceaseless motion, Yours phases vexing Terra's oceans Maiden, Mother, and finally, Crone In your cycle not alone For there are lessons in your trajectory, We see in it our own mortality.
Thinning sickle, intermediate, But no less an aspect of this circuit Your devil's horns are waning tips That signal journey's full ellipse Still holding gracefully to the night, Your passing is a mournful sight.
Dying Hecate, your time is nearing, The cloak of shadows you are wearing Draws you in at journey's end The cycle's poised to begin again Sic transit Gloria, too soon, Thus passes away the glory of the Moon.
