An Open Heart

If my heart wasnt so open
It would be difficult for hurt to get inside
Yet it comes in through the doors
And finds a place to hide
I know of no other way to be
Then open to this pain
So hurt has a home
And he uses it for his gain
Ive tried to close the door a time or two
Tried to let nobody in
Stopped the blood from flowing freely
It might as while been a piece of tin
I was no happier none-the-less
And I learned from the painful try
That if you close you heart to all
Then the good ones you deny
So Id rather deal with hurt
Than to never experience love
Ive learned you cant protect you heart
By simply wearing a glove
Though I dont welcome pain
I no longer try to hide
By closing off my heart
And allowing no one inside
