Alone in the shadows, hidden from all, the voices, the whispers, they no longer call; Hidden from my heart these things I loathed, now stricken from me mysteriously, forever gone; The visions that once dominated my every dream, with trickery and mockery of things unclean; Vanished from my mind and forever my soul, they no longer torment me with utter control; And now like a love sick and immortal fool, I sit here with emptiness and an aching so cruel; Have I changed without the slight sense of awareness, transformed from deep within, no longer in anguish; Have my sweet and perverse demons fled from me, banished back to the shadows and dark revelry; I should welcome the peace that has come within, for which is most assuredly a blessed requiem; Instead there is hollowness, lacking of great glee, without these delusionary companions I feel unease; I can't feel the emotions that should govern my path, such dullness and coldness is all that I can grasp; It is as if some great adversity has come into play, and morbid and perversely to shadows I pray; Come back to me, my bitter and comforting ghosts, with your torments and whispers that once made me whole.

I have lived within this state, more times than I can (sadly) count...
A nostalgic piece, most beautifully expressed...
And overwhelming.
